The event will conclude Ignatian Heritage Week, an annual celebration of the history and culture of the Society of Jesus.

University Names New Director of Campus Ministry https://now.fordham.edu/living-the-mission/university-names-new-director-of-campus-ministry/ Mon, 21 Jun 2010 18:27:39 +0000 http://news.fordham.sitecare.pro/?p=32401 Philip A. Florio, S.J., has been appointed the new director of campus ministry at Fordham University, effective Aug. 1.

Philip A. Florio, S.J., has extensive experience in campus ministry at several Jesuit institutions.

Father Florio comes to Fordham from the Newman Campus Ministry Center at the University of Pennsylvania, where he held the position of director-chaplain. Before that, he was chaplain and assistant to the vice president for student life at Saint Joseph’s University and director of campus ministry at the University of Scranton.

Since his days as a second-year novice at the Scranton Preparatory School, Father Florio has been involved in campus ministry work in various Jesuit apostolates and academic communities. He has extensive experience with retreat ministry, spiritual direction and pastoral care throughout the past 17 years of his Jesuit formation.

“Father Florio’s experience in ministry, administration, teaching and service, combined with a detailed knowledge of Jesuit higher education, prepare him well for this new leadership role at Fordham,” said Monsignor Joseph G. Quinn, J.D., J.C.L., vice president of University Mission and Ministry. “He arrived at Fordham last week and will assume his service as director of campus ministry in the weeks ahead.”

Father Florio succeeds Joseph A. Currie, S.J., who served with distinction as director of campus ministry at Fordham for 13 years.

Father Florio is a doctor of ministry candidate at the Catholic University of America with a concentration in spiritual formation. He earned a master of divinity degree and a master of theology degree from Boston College in 2001 with a concentration in pastoral studies.

Father Florio also earned a master of arts degree in philosophical resources from Fordham in 1996 and a master of science in training and organizational development from Saint Joseph’s University in 1991.

He was ordained to the Roman Catholic priesthood on June 9, 2001, in Baltimore.
