Opening Day marked the official start of the academic year for the 2,286 students of the Class of 2022, with 1,075 enrolling at Fordham College at Rose Hill, and 572 enrolling at Fordham College at Lincoln Center. The Gabelli School of Business at Rose Hill is now home to 480 new students, while the Gabelli School at Lincoln Center has opened its doors to 159 students. With 46,168 applications as of August 24, the University realized a record applicant pool in this most recent admission cycle.

Academically talented, the first year class has a mean test score of 1354, and a mean high school GPA of 3.65 on a 4.0 scale. In addition, six students are enrolling as Cunniffe Presidential Scholars, 102 as Semifinalist Scholars (National Merit and National Hispanic Scholars), and 106 as Dean’s Scholars.

The University continues to draw a sizable percentage of students from the New York Metropolitan area, with New York and New Jersey the top states for enrollment. California, which occupies the third spot, sent 154 students this year, compared to 135 last year. Connecticut and Massachusetts round out the top five spots.

The number of international students represents roughly 10 percent of the incoming class. China, India, and Vietnam are the top three countries represented.

“We are delighted to welcome this extraordinarily talented and diverse Class of 2022 to the Fordham family,” said John W. Buckley, vice president for admission and student financial services.

“They were selected from an impressive applicant pool of more than 46,000, and are among the most accomplished students from across the country and around the globe.”

Early Applications to Undergraduate Colleges On the Rise https://now.fordham.edu/university-news/early-applications-undergraduate-colleges-rise/ Mon, 22 Jan 2018 14:42:56 +0000 https://news.fordham.sitecare.pro/?p=84112 The number of prospective undergraduate students applying to Fordham continues to grow, as the University received 45,843 applicants for the Class of 2022 as of Jan. 21, compared to 44,693 last year.

Of that number, 20,949 students applied for Early Decision/Early Action, a five percent increase from last year, which at the time was largest early applicant pool in University history, said John W. Buckley, associate vice president for undergraduate enrollment.

Buckley said the growth in the early pool included strong gains from students in California, where 1,477 applied this year, as compared to 1,271 last year, and Texas, where 588 applied, compared to 514 last year. Both are markets that the University has been actively cultivating in recent years.

The numbers also indicate that the shift toward more students filing early is continuing, he said.

“You’d like to believe that those who are applying early are more keenly interested in the university and, at the same time, they tend to be students who are also well prepared,” Buckley said.

“It’s nice to have the opportunity to work with these students earlier in the cycle. You can then strongly encourage them to visit campus and dive into the rich information we have on the website.”

The 11,289 early applicants who applied to Fordham and successfully passed through the selection process are academically talented. The mean GPA for the early admits is just shy of 3.8 (on a 4.0 scale) and their mean testing stands at 1405, a 13-point increase over last year.

As a sign of Fordham’s emergence as a truly global institution, for the third consecutive cycle, more than 6,000 international students have applied for admission to the Class of 2022.

Undergraduate Applications Surpass 40,000 https://now.fordham.edu/university-news/undergraduate-applications-surpass-40000/ Thu, 06 Feb 2014 17:43:04 +0000 http://news.fordham.sitecare.pro/?p=29150 Undergraduate applications to Fordham topped 40,000 for the first time this year, significantly boosted by the development of the Lincoln Center campus and the expansion of academic programs there, said John W. Buckley, the University’s associate vice president for enrollment.

The 40,535 applications received by Jan. 23 mark a 14 percent increase over the 35,444 received by that date last year. The figures comprise applications to Fordham College at Rose Hill, Fordham College at Lincoln Center, and the Gabelli School of Business at both campuses.

This is the 23rd consecutive year in which the number of undergraduate applications has grown, Buckley said.

He noted the interest generated by new programs such as humanitarian studies and integrative neuroscience being offered at the Lincoln Center campus, along with the new program in global business that the Gabelli School of Business will offer at the Manhattan-based campus this fall. Fordham College at Lincoln Center experienced a 57 percent increase in freshman applications. The Gabelli program has drawn 2,109 applications for about 50 freshman slots.

“The academic programs are certainly playing a role in this growth,” he said. “The other critical element, of course, is the fact that we’re now going to have a beautiful new residential facility for freshmen at Lincoln Center,” he said, referring to the 400-bed dormitory opening in the fall.

Early-action applications also rose sharply this year, from 13,006 to 16,524, Buckley said, for an increase of 27 percent.

“It was exciting to realize that kind of an increase in the early pool,” he said. “Typically, these are students who are more inclined toward Fordham as a possible first choice. These are not only talented students but also students who are more invested in the University.”

He also noted the encouraging growth in applications from distant markets including California (11 percent), the South (14 percent), and the Midwest (19 percent).

International applications jumped 34 percent, to 3,376. The greatest numbers came from China (1,502) and from India (240).

Referring to international growth, Buckley said, “The inherent strengths of the University, the opportunities that we offer, and our location in New York City are all powerful attractions.”

The deadline for the applications was Jan. 1, and decisions are expected to be sent to students by the third week in March, Buckley said.
