Guy Robinson, Ph.D., lecturer in biology, digs old stuff. Really old stuff. In fact, the fossils he keeps at Lincoln Center date back as far as 400 million years. Along with an assortment of visual aids, such as a modern giraffe skull from the Bronx Zoo, they help him bring the lessons of flora and fauna directly into the hands of students.

BRINGING FOSSILS TO LIFE: MARYMOUNT EXHIBIT FEATURES “NATURAL HISTORY” PAINTINGS https://now.fordham.edu/science/bringing-fossils-to-life-marymount-exhibit-features-natural-history-paintings/ Tue, 12 Nov 2002 17:00:30 +0000 http://news.fordham.sitecare.pro/?p=39035 TARRYTOWN, N.Y. — David J. Holt will show his recent paintings and works on paper in an exhibi-tion titled “Natural History: Birds, Fossils and Monkeys” from Nov. 25 through Jan. 24 in Butler Gal-lery, Butler Hall, Marymount College of Fordham University. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

The paintings range in style from naturalistic studies to nearly abstract grid-like arrangements of bird and fossil shapes. In these arrangements, Holt, a professor of art who has taught at Marymount since 1988, skillfully uses color harmonies and rhythmic patterns to achieve quirky musical effects. Based on drawings of specimens Holt studied at the American Museum of Natural History, the Bronx Zoo and other places while on sabbatical last spring, the works on display are part of a larger series of paintings devoted to subjects from natural history.
